From the producers:

Self-sufficient. Hard-working. Family-oriented. If these are
qualities Americans profess to value, why is the government teaming with
big business to demolish a centuries-old tradition of resource
production that could help resolve the global energy crisis? No answer
is adequate for the owners of 12 remaining anthracite coal mines in
Pennsylvania. They struggle to survive in the face of irrelevant
punishments levied against them by federal inspectors with a mission to
shut them down. Hard Coal: Last of the Bootleg Miners introduces
viewers to the fiercely proud and dedicated purveyors of this dying
craft and exposes the dangerous hypocrisy waged on them by the very
people charged with protecting their interests. Hard Coal : last of
the bootleg miners will be screening its reedited and new and improved
version , at the pine grove theater in Ppine Grove PA. (

Sept. 14th at 7 pm
Sept.15-16th at 2- 7 pm.

Please pass the word, Support our film and the
independent miners. www.hardcoalmovie. com thank you

I plan on taking pics, so be prepared to smile.

Has anyone else seen the original version of this film? I've been waiting ever so patiently for the DVD, so I'll have to trek up to Pine Grove for this.

I wish I had a video cam...... Actually, They might have a few copies on sale there. I'm not sure. I talked to one of the miners in it who went to the origional showing in Philly, and he said he got a copy. I don't know if thats through the Independent Coal Miners, or just because he was there.... or becasue he was in it? Not sure, but well see.... NY State or NYC Adam?

Yeah, I'd love to get a copy of this! We should post something up when copies of this are available for sale. From watching the original previews on the internet, it looks very interesting.

Hey Greg, nothing was for sale as the show. I'm not sure when they're going to be out. In fact, to be quite honest, I thought the turnout was rather pathetic. Mostly elderly towns people.... there seriously was about 25 people there..
