was up flying with banks yesterday. took a shot of the pine ridge colliery site. you can see the foundation to the wash house as well as the airshaft. the main haulage shaft is just to the left of the main road in somewhere. not totally sure on the exact location of that but its close. well this sums it up....................

Great Photo. Its crazy how we are building our homes basiclly on top of mines. Makes me wonder if those people know what they are living above.

When you basically wipe out the surface landscape of any and all evidence, who is to know? I doubt anyone living there knows celebrates the Pine Ridge Colliery with framed pictures in their living room. And I doubt the development is called Pine Ridge Estates. lol. Let's just hope no one builds a house in that very spot above the shaft. That could be bad... very bad.

And hopefully there is no ground settling in that area around the mine, especially if there is an outcrop there. That would be very bad. The builders don't care, they just want to build houses and sell them. It's all real estate to them. Too bad..

8) yeaaahhh..

I dont think theres any outcrop there really, which it good for the homeowners. Its all the same in most developments around here... this is just one of the more recent ones.

If you take a look at that picture, you can kindof get an idea of where the development will expand to. If you turn into the development, and make the first (or what will be the first) right hand turn, take a look at where the road will be in comparasin to the shaft.

good observation, i dont think anyone is really buying the homes there, afterall why would you want to spend tons of money there, its still wilkes-barre, im from plains but comeon, especially on that ground, im sure all that ash, etc. is just delicious for your body.

ya really, they have tons of that rock too, i came across an article that saif they trucked off the culm that was there to use it at the 1939 worlds fair, they used it for makeshift roads =), i think that was in new york? anyway thats another interesting pr fact, if you google the colliery name youll come across an article from 1869 i think it explains of a huge mine fire at pr that trapped 30 or so workers, its an interesting read. enjoy.

Another interesting thing is that believe it or not, I have an article from i believe 1947 which is about the hudson coal co and its experement with aluminum dust to help the miners at pine ridge be less susepitble to lung and breathing troubles, its somewhere burrieds in my home ofice and once I find it Ill share this nonsence with the group.
