Wow, that is some impressive shots. Those guys are really going to town to ensure that they cut out the fire before it gets there. I was looking at it from the highway, you can see a lot of work was done in the area (looks complete different), but you can't see the cut that they made.

he he thanks for the pic Chris! Great shots of the work being done. I can only imagine what the "arm chair quarter backs" are saying about this fire not being propery taken care of. :)

yep, just like centralia started from one guy burning one trash bag in a stripping pit against a coal seam. i wonder what the guy who stole the car is thinking now? wonder if he even cares or thinks its a big joke?

He probably thinks its a joke... I was up there when johnson's towing was taking the burned car away. The ground was smoldering and smoking since that happend for a longg time before anything was done...And i was up at the fire last night you can drive right down in there where they dug it out...

yes you can until they get the gate on the fence, however watch out for CO gas! we blew out a sensor on one of our gas monitors because the concentration was so great, not a good place to be! they monitor CO as they are working and if it gets above the tolerable level they get out, so keep that in mind

so osm tells me they only have a few weeks until the trench project to contain the fire will be completed. this is good, they did a great job there and got the trench built just in time this time and the fire didnt jump it. heres a pic from todays flight:

yes you are correct, the fire is burning towards the 175 foot deep trench from the center. it is u shaped because the coal outcrops in the middle so there is no need to complete the circle.

when all the people move out  actually thats when they will probably strip the entire area out! i guess if they did this to, the fire is so deep that the trench would need to be over 600 feet deep....... then bryan ill have to call my base jumpin' buddies. they are already eyeballing wadesville

yeah they for sure dont want anyone up there anymore because right now its considered an active mine site. They're using using yukes and machines thatd never see a little truck in their path during the day.... not to mention the blasting. Then at night they dont want people up there because of vandalism and the fact the the landscape changes just about every day. Riding a quad or anything through a "known area" might not be so known anymore. They're really ripping the place up with that huge trench.
