This steam engine was used by the lehigh coal co in hazleton pa to haul anthracite mine cars from the stripping pits and mine openings to the breaker. not sure exactly what colliery it came from but these little babies were all over the place by the thousands. this is the only running saddle tank locomotive that was used to haul anthracite. this locomotive weighs 25 tons and has a top speed of around 30 mph. thats pretty fast for a little steam engine! unfortunatly track conditions only let us get up around 9 or 10. this locomotive was built by vulcan iron works in wilkesbarre pa in 1927. Pioneer Tunnel has a sister lokie to this one but its in storage and hasnt been fired since 2002. we have some nice shots here:
