Thanks guys, I also stopped by the peters mine, looks pretty much the same as when I last went 8 months ago, they have done allot of nothing!. The pit is still flooded and there are a few fenced in areas near the houses where subsidances have opened up. You can see that the old tramway road to the hope mine has been leveled and widened to fit bulldozers, which is a shame since there was always allot of high grade magnetite around ready for the picking. Other then that, there are fenced off sections with well's installed, and allot of dirt has been moved in some areas.

I understand that if they dont see the water in the peters mine pit as leaching into any waterways, the superfund's only objective would be to cap it and store it. The Peters mine will probably be leveled and a park with a few swings and picnic tables put up.

im trying, im trying here. and still this year we loose the coalbrook powerhouse, and the lehman 179 tipple. for what? a stupid road and industrial park. the road could have been built 50 feet away and left it alone and the industrial park can go elsewhere. oh well. at least we saved the gravity buildings and our mine motor :D

Remember, Hibernia was never "levelled" to make room for a Wal-Mart. There were to be townhomes and a golf course on the site. Imagine making that hole in one when your golfball lands in #9 shaft! If only the right people stepped in at the right time, that could have been the next amazing tour mine. This is a mine and industry this town was once very proud of.
