Now that I have seen my first "other than Anthracite" mine, I have a few questions. The mine from Sunday:

What is the name of it? What were the years of operation? Why did it close? Am I correct that Limestone was the mineral mined? Who/what company owned it?

It was mentioned that there is another one not far away, what is the history of that one too?

I'm very interested in these mines now, not sure if it's because it's new to me or the fact I can walk in them without walking slouched over.

I was hoping someone else was going to chime in on this.. But the mine we went into was the Hasbrouck Mine. It is an older mine for the area, but I honestly don't know the years of operation or history for the mine. The nearby sister mine, the Delaware mine was a much more modern operation and looks to be operated by truck where the Hasbrouck mine has evidence of rail operation.

I might be singing to the choir here....

I haven't visited the hasbrouck mine yet .... but soon.

The Delaware mine was a dolomite limestone mine. Once the cement market in the area declined it was used for mushrooms. There's plenty of articles on this subject.
