I was wondering if anyone had been to these locations. They are absent from minedat.org. I have provided a link describing the locations and a map that possibly depicts Duell Hollow location, (East of Duell Hollow Rd., 2 mi. SE of Dover Station- now called Wingdale). I hope this plants the seed for exploration. The map is from a Quaker Hill history book that mentions Duell Hollow Mine, zoom in and look in NE shaded section. i worked for a lady who told me of the mine but got spooked when I started asking for the specifics. I think the Pawling Mine Might be just off Rt.55 ??? I have also stuimbled across reference to a mine on Quaker Hill possibly the Duell Hollow Mine??? There is a "Prospect Street" just east of 22 on Quaker Hill

It certainly looks like it is something worth looking at. I have not been there yet, but please keep us posted on your findings!

The Duell Hollow Mine has been located by a recent realestate listing that makes note of the property having a Revolutionary War era iron mine. I am recovering from a broken leg so I hope another fanatic can get out and document this site- call a realator and set up an apointment to veiw the property.

Are these underground iron mines in that area? I know most of the iron mines in northern CT were big open pits which are now mostly ponds. I wonder if these would be similar.

Ive read about the Pawling Mine and sounds like a combo of both . I imagine it could be filled with water same as a pit. I have no idea about Quaker Hill and Duell Hollow. I have read of an abandoned gold mine off Duell Hollow described as a forty foot tunnel into one of the sides of the hollow-I dont think it has anything to do with the iron mine.

Hi Johnny,

I would like to check out Duel Hollow. Do you think we can discuss some things off line? Drop me a PM when you have a moment. Many thanks.
