I have been watching this one anxiously. There is a fire that started near the Gladiator Mine that is threatening to engulf the historic mining town of Crown King, Arizona. We have visited this town a number of times, drank in the Crown King Saloon, and visited a number of the mines nearby including Gladiator and the Silver Prince Mine (see http://www.ironminers.com/mines/silver-prince-mine/). No lives have been lost but three structures have been damaged so far and the winds are expected to intensify.

There is also a fire burning in Tonto National Forest, near the Sunflower Mine.

The fire has already reached the Silver Prince Mine and destroyed a residence at the mine. The good news, is it hasn't reached the town of Crown King.

The Gladiator Fire (Crown King Fire) is also now 80% contained. Fortunately, the historic mining town of Crown King has remained mostly unharmed but it is likely that numerous mining related structures surrounding the community were destroyed. The over 300 people who lived and/or worked in Crown King have since returned after previously being evacuated.
