Our "friends" at Tilcon, who own the property where the Mt. Hope mine is situated, are hosting an Open House for the public on Saturday, June 2nd, from 9AM-3PM. They are giving quarry tours. There will be mineral displays, BBQ food, entertainment, and other activities geared for children. No mention is made of touring the mine buildings, but they'll certainly be close by (and within range of my camera!)

If you want to go, call 973-659-3800 and leave a message so they can get an approx. headcount. Or go to www.tilconny.com and look for the open house link.

Sounds great! Let's hope that they plan to include remnants of the Mount Hope Mine as part of their tour. In particular I want to take another look at the Brown Shaft area.

Yea I went to last years open house, they are not prepared to show anything iron mining related, The mining days were before Tilcon came. They will display giant caterpiller vehicles which are cool. Its a fun but dont expect anyone knowledgeable on the iron days, not even the shaft's names will be recognized.

The brown shaft will be right there, and you will see it which is cool.

I guess it might still be interesting to go, to look at the quarrying which takes place at Mt. Hope. Too bad there won't be anything there on the Iron Mining...

Did anyone make it to the Tilcon open house this year? I wanted to go, but unfortunately couldn't make it. Any updates would be great.
