The screen shot worked great, thanks!

Here is something else I just found. Have you seen this?

http://www.cnyhiking.com/BRP-SpecMineTrail.htm

Evidently that trail is in the National Forest. As so often is the case, although the trail was named after the mines, it doesn't really give you any information on the mines.

But! Notice how closely the trail follows the contour lines in some places (on both maps). That tends to suggest it might be laid over an abandoned RR bed. Suggests indeed but we don't know that for sure. If it was a railroad, it could've been a logging road, too.

However if you hike that trail and examine the surroundings you might be able to find the mine. I would do it in winter when there are fewer leaves on the trees (although these might be conifers; I'm not familiar with the area).

I think this might be the right area, though.

Happy hunting !

Regards,
Fred M. Cain

Yes there is a trail and that's what got me looking orginialy the trail is very level and follow the contours but was built later, when you hike the trail you can notice on the other side of the hollow an even more level and wider trail that goes down to the branch named after the mines, and isnt shown on the topoquad of the area. that's my attack plan tomorow is to hike across the hollow and see where that leads, thanks for all the help so far guys

Where did those pictures come from? Did you take those? With those tracks in there looks like it was a pretty decent working.

Please let us know what you find out!

I'd like to see your pictures. How do I find them?

Also, how far in did you go? Was it a pretty big mine?

Hey guys, as you can see I'm new here. My brother and I live in the same town as the OP and went looking for this mine last weekend. We didn't get very far before we realized maybe it would be a good idea to do some further research. If anyone would like to meet up sometime and check this place out please let me know. Also, I have an old book that mentions the area where there was a narrow gauge railroad that went to the N&W tracks to load rail cars. Thanks

This Minedat.org page has the GPS coordinates and nearby sites to check out. Add your pics to the listings and they will live forever. Love that area- camped near the Peaks of Otter a decade ago.
