Banks, that is really neat! I've heard about old desert towns where they use the mines as living space. However, have you seen Poland's Wieliczka Salt Mine? While I'm not aware of anyone actually living there, the mine has been working the last 700 years, has 9 levels, 2,040 "chambers" and the best part, churches, chapels, and rooms for leisure activities and sculptures made of salt.
