I have just been fasinated by this Koehler 209 flame safety lamp that i bought at a thrift store. Thanks to ya'll i found out thow to get into it , which was about to make me go crazy, what fuel to use and how to clean and disassemble the lamp. Well i got her going. She burns beautifully. However as i was selebrting my new achievement, the small cam that is built onto the ignitor, not the square shaft that the flint wheel is attached to broke. Now I have to light it with a match which is fine and dandy but i really want the lamp original. Now my question is this if any of you have one that you would be willing to part with to help out a budding lamp collector I would be greatly in your debt. Of course i would be willing to pay for it. My extensive internet search led me to the distributor who sold parts for the lamp but he no longer has any all he has are globes wicks and inner and outer gauses. No matter where i go on the internet i alway end back up here. I have read some posts with reguards to finding the proper flints. I have found that flints used in strikers for propane and oxyacetelene are the proper diameter all you have to do is break off the threaded metal piece. Well that is about it for now. I thank you all for your time and look foreward to talking with ya'll soon.- Take care Scoot

We have those parts in stock.

We still use many of our lamps from time to time but we do get a little spoiled with the 4 gas electrictronic detector. It is nice to have a reading vs waiting for the light to go out. Then the question is did we bump it or is it bad air. Nice to see that you got it working.

Go to our site www.ohiovintagecoal.com

Email us at our shop location.

Please send us pictures of the broken item.

Thanks,
Pete, Ohio Vintage Coal

I am assuming you are talking about the striker and the little ball at the end of the cam that you would put the C-Clip around to hold the striker wheel? Yeah one of our friends had this happen to his lamp. I took it in to look at it briefly, I couldn't come up with an easy way to fix it. I tried some solder hoping it would hold the little wheel, but since the striker cam is aluminum, it doesn't hold.

The only thing that MIGHT work is that there are a few companies who show up at the car show swap meets like Carlisle who well a product which allows you to "weld" aluminum. There are little rods that you heat up with a propane torch and it will allow you to repair holes in soda cans and anything else you can heat hot enough with a propane torch. You might be able to weld something on there to hold the wheel. Or repair the cam itself. Other than that, you need a new striker..

Here is a video showing you how to repair a hole in a tin can:

Yeah I have personally seen the stuff work at a few swap meets, Carlisle, Englishtown, and probably elsewhere. It does seem to work although I never used it. I probably should pick some up as I never know when I am going to need to repair aluminum. However at this point, I haven't had a need to.

How well will it work for this application? No idea, it is suppose to be a strong weld. Since the striker comes all apart, it probably is repairable.

If anyone is looking there is a Koehler Globe listed on E-Bay.

yea good find, these are pretty hard to come by so if it goes for not too high a price it would be worth picking up.

Nice that is a good find. You find many lamps on EBay without them. It really is the most destructible thing in the lamp. I believe I have an aftermarket one in mine because mine doesn't have the lines in it. I've seen a few lamps without the lines, I'd love to hear the story about them if anyone knows why some globes were sold without lines.
