I would like to say hello to you all. I am new to this site. I am a former coal miner from southern WV. I am a fourth generation coal miner. I was an electrician most of my career, got my diesel instructor card, shot firer, and mine foreman card. I am trying to do some research on the semi Anthracite mines in the valley field of Va. I think it is important because this is slipping into history fast. Thanks.

I think the VA Anthracite history is fascinating.
Anything you can share with us, we'll surely drink up!
Welcome, and thanks.

welcome to the forum. we don't have much representation from down your way, and i think you're the only mine foreman to sign up and make a post on the forum! probably the people that would know the most about the area of your interest are the guys from Ohio Vintage Coal Co. ( Railhaulageminers ) on the forum here.

What kind of mine did you work in.. room and pillar or longwall?

Sweet, welcome again.

Banks

I have worked both room and pillar and longwall. I've worked on buggie section, Hauler section, and bridge section. The longwall mine I worked at was Aracoma coal Alma#1. I don't know if you remember or not but, thats the one that caught on fire and killed two miners in 06.

No, they used foam and a direct water attack. US Steel #50, and Consol Energy Buckhanon #1 used nitrogen and a jet engine.

I'm looking at the Blacksburg , Christiansburg area. The info on the mines in this area is about to slip into history. I'm trying to set up an interview with some of locals who have group to try to preserve this history. As soon as I find something out I will let you know what I found and I will post an article on my site.
