This neat open air gravity railroad car was just restored and will be dedicated on Saturday:

If you are going, take some pictures of it...

The event was great. In addition to the ceremony and car there was a fantastic display of period woodworking and blacksmithing tools similar to those used to construct the car in the late 19th century. A hit and miss engine also powered an ice cream maker which made vanilla ice cream for guests. I learned that the original car was too far gone to preserve, so the piece unveiled today is actually a replica. It is currently resting on hay wagon wheels, but narrow gauge trucks are on their way. Accuracy is paramount in the project, so the wheel sets will be widened to fit the prototypical 4 foot, 3 inch gauge track, of which a couple hundred feet were built on site. The car’s seats will also be installed in the future.

Yeah, that was very interesting. They did a good job on the cars. I guess it next needs steel wheels. But I guess it is easier to move around like this.

The car on display is a replica, built completely from new material. Here is a photo of the program from the event which gives the history of the original car:

Ohh, thats not a lot of the original car.. How accurate is the new one? Were they able to find enough stuff to make it as sized accurate as possible? Just curious..
