I’ve passed by this thing numerous times, but never took a close look until invited inside today:

It is a grapevine built entirely from reclaimed slate quarry material! Most of the poles are narrow gauge railroad rail rolled by Bethlehem Steel. Another pole was a water pipe capped by a planer blade. The larger tubes were steam pipes and are attached to the rails by fishplates (rail joint bars). Three strand cables from the wire saw make up the canopy. Cable clamps, drill rods, and a big slate table top also made their way into the complex.

Thats funny.. For sure, that is a sturdy grape vine. That one will last another couple hundred years before coming down..
