Critics slam Steamtown

The thing that surprised John Varrelmann the most about his first visit in a decade to Steamtown National Historic Site is how little it had changed.

Sure, the Jackson, N.J., man noticed more rust than he remembered as he strolled with his wife, Maggie, and their two children among the park’s vintage locomotives and cars, exploring and snapping photographs on a sun-drenched summer afternoon.

But he anticipated far more activity and especially more operating steam engines — not just the ones he saw during his last visit. The site ostensibly has three operable steam locomotives, although one is the midst of a major overhaul.

I cant say I dont agree, The place looks like a junkyard and many of the cars have been there deteriorating for years. Thats one more example of govermnent inefficiancy let that be a lesson to anyone who is for socialized healthcare, the feds cant fix a few trains, so I could only imagine the fiasco.... anyway no suprize

what they should do is put the management of it out to privite bid, and hold the subcontracted mgmnt team to standards which must be met. now that its being run by an arm of the govt (us park service) It is not being run well.
