Thats exactly what that stuff looks like from a distance........ big tonka toys. It's still a little different feeling when your close to the 8700 and the operator starts to swing!

Is miner training for anthracite miners any different than other coalminers?

naw, i'm back in school now.. just working at Alfred brown on the weekends. i miss it there actually... they seem to always be hiring there. when i was at training there were 2 guys there headed to harmony. at the time i hadnt put an application in yet. do you have a mine in mind? sorry if you mentioned it before on the forum..i can't remember right off hand

in terms of the msha videos and such its all the same as bituminous. in fact the videos are tailored to bitty operations. the difference is the instructor in tremont (Paul Wagner) tailors the class more for pitch mining, which is good. he tells a lot of anthracite stories and shows some good old videos put out by the Independent [Anthracite] Miners Association.

OK, *Stupid Question Alert*

Do truck drivers have to have any special mine training? If memory serves me correctly, they do in the Southern bitty mines.

I think it depends on exactly what your doing. If your taking coal from the breaker to a customer I don't think you do. If your in a big stripping operation I think you'll need MSHA surface training, site specific training, and then you have to be trained on whatever truck your using. I know it gets a little silly, by the time your done you'll have a glove box full of pink MSHA slips!
