when you travel outside the area its hard to get good food, everyone knows the olive garden cant hold a candle to brutico's in old forge, dominicks in plains, latrottoria in scranton, etc etc etc just like no one in hillshire farms kilbasi has nothing on anything made here. So im starting this discussion, with this list of my favorite coal region foods and places to get them in the area;

1 potato pankakes -st bonifice bazaar blackman st w-b
2 pagauch -hands down its happy pizza 40 w main in plymouth (they use cooper cheese)
3. haluski -again happy pizza, plymouth, but its only avail during lent and sporradically during the year. (they make their own noodles)
4. porketta -sunshine market rt 315 plains, (cook it all day in a slow cooker)
5. pierogie- There is a russian church that makes them on seneca st in mayflower section of wilkes barre -excellent
6. kielbasa- smoked- fetch's market w. main st plymouth
- fresh- plains market plains pa
7. pizza- round -jannuzzi's 20 east northhampton wilkes barre
-square dominick's cafe 20 school st hudson
- brownies in scranton

I can't vouch for the region, but there's nothing like a chili-cheese hot dog with mustard and onion from the Famous Hot Wiener in Hanover.

My favorites are:
1 Potatoe Pancakes, St. Johns in Larksville
2 Pagach- Happys in Plymouth
3 Haluski- My Own!
4 Porketta- Don't like it from anywhere
5 Pierogis- St Johns Russian Church in the Hanover Section of Nanticoke
6 Kielbasa- It's a 3 way tie! Harrys Mkt on Hazle St. in Wilkes Barre, Kowaloneks in Shenendoah and Capitol Mkt in Shenendoah
7 Pizza- Round is a tie between Happys in Plymouth,Ruby's in the Hanover Section, Nardozzis in Nanticoke, and Charlies in Pottsville
Square hands down is Top Notch in Sugar Notch

And as far as hot dogs go Coney Island in Pottsville are my favorite!

Ever try the MRE's? They are an interesting food for when you are in the mine while in the middle of a good mission. Some of the MRE's are actually pretty good. Just give them a little water and you have a somewhat fresh hot meal..
