The only thing Sands seems to have consumed is its own solvency.

The last I heard the project completely stopped. Investors backed out & the money is not there to continue.

Most of the plant has been demolished. The 4 blast furnaces & the 12 blowing engines remain along with several other buildings. The plant site has security & is not open to the public. The only way to gain access is to wait for the National Museum of Industrial History to have an open house or you might get lucky & contact Mike Piersa on here.

The hotel/retail/events center has stalled, but the casino is going forward, maybe even ahead of schedule:
http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-a2_4sands.6648079oct30,0,3104293.story
The site is fenced off and patrolled 24/7. The best way to see the site, a little bit at a time (no wandering around/site seeing, must stay in the building we are working in, etc.) is to volunteer. We will be working on the blowing engines next weekend. Almost anyone 18 and over can help, just PM me for details.

Here are some aerial shots of the plant from this afternoon. This flight was awesome. I even got to do the take off! The big change at the plant recently has been the demolition of the PBNE office building six days ago. The full aerial album is online here:

If the casino isn't being built anymore, why are they still tearing things down?

The casino is still being built. However, the extra stuff such as a hotel has stalled.

The third photo was taken last week and does not include anything from the transformers set. However, the lights, dust, and noise reminded me of the set. It’s too bad they didn’t schedule the demolition during the filming – it would have fit in perfectly. Also, the poem in your sig line is eerily appropriate to the experience of watching the building fall at night.

They just tore down that one building. The rest of the stuff is supposed to stay. The bulk of the demolition occurred last year

but this building remained up because the casino construction crew was using it as an office until they moved into trailers a few months ago.

Paint makes ALL the deference in the world. I still like getting things running while they are rusty & is always a struggle to paint them or leave them as they were found. Painting seems to bring it back to life but makes things look too new sometimes. NICE JOB GUYS. Rick I know exactly what you went through on the spraying part. The stuff that kills me is the paint that requires a hardener.
