MINERSVILLE — It is likely more than one person is responsible for stealing coal from the St. Nick’s Coal Breaker late Monday night or early Tuesday, a security official said.

Thieves removed 4 tons of pea and chestnut coal from the Reading Anthracite-owned breaker on Mount Laffee Road in New Castle Township between 3 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to state police at Frackville.

“You could tell they used shovels and you could see there were more than one set of footprints,â€

We had people do that down here in WV, coal truck drivers would sometime drop some of their load and later sell it as house coal.

Seems to me that coal truck drivers have enough problems as it is with their reputations, the fact that some steal coal is pretty much another nail intheir coffin as far as I'm concerned, I can't stand truckers, they're always getting in my way at work. As for the coal stolen from the breaker, as messed up as that is, would one not expect this sort of thing to happen in an energy crisis? Especially if the guards responsible have to leave their post to go check on other things.

Wow you wouldn't like me at all. With our heavy hauling that we do we tend to shut down complete intersections & block multiple lanes of traffic.

Total weight of load & trailer 258,000lbs plus we were over 250 ft long.

WE ARE THE TRAFFIC STOPPERS but when you are in the business moving this stuff on the flip side you should see how many stupid people in cars that pull off the most unsafe & unbelievable off roading techniques endangering our crews as well as theirs  .

Shana will definately understand this point of view. These are just things you can not jump out of the way, very challenging to moves.

In these times I could see someone risk their fool neck to steal that coal. But I'd wonder why there wouldn't be some kind of way to hire at least 1 person to stay at the loading areas.

Is that bed having a lot of flex or what--it must add another 3-5 ft. to the overall length-- :?:

That arch is nothing compared to other loads we have done. The arch does not add any length strictly there for the weight. We can control the arch on that trailer. When the car was on the trailer it was almost completely flat and we were still over height I think 15' ft 4" high (legal 13'6") . You wouldn't believe how long it takes to shim the trailer to get the correct arch & height combination, that is where the real engineering gets involved.

That is an impressive rig.

The car look like a heavy-weight Pullman Observation Car, circa mid-30's and about 85 feet over the couplers.

From some other things I seen I'd be thinking maybe avoid the site? It might save some hassle---kinda

Still would like to know why no double posting of security at those times--- :?: :?:
