Hey there UGM/AMR team, any of you around the #9 this weekend?

Dave K. has made arrangements for me to bring my annual after Thanksgiving train guys tour to the #9 on Saturday. We'll have 20 guys who like the anthracite railroads but really don't know that much about mining.

I can't wait to get up there.

Rob

We're getting to the mine around 10:15.

After that, we are heading up to Scranton to see the CPR holiday train.

We had a nice tour of the #9. Dave K. was our guide.

Along the way, I learned a few things, the most memorable being the chalked message that Mike A is the most awesome tour guide. My #1 suspect denies responsibility.

We had a UGM siting, but the guys were busy with the front end loader.

Coolest new thing... the ghost picture a tourist took this summer of the mystery face by the cages.

From there, it was on to pork and saurkraut at the Beacon diner then up to the Hudson Model RR club. After checing in the yards at Pittston Jct. and Taylor, we went to see the CP Holiday Train in Scranton, a quick stop at the Gerture Hawk candy factory layout, then back to Hazleton to see the great HO scale train club there.

Diner was at the Blue Comet diner. We love Ferdinands' scamutz, but we tried something new. Next time, it is back to Ferds. Then we were on the road back to Joisey.

A great day out with 18 turkeys, including my little one.

Yeah, Mike was hard at work while we were there.

The Hudson club is cool, but even cooler is the 8 foot or so long porcelain ename Hudson Coal sign they just won on eBay. They hadn't hung it yet. Apparently one of their guys is an a-coal sign collector who has some real interesting stuff including a couple of Dickson & Eddy (O&W) signs. Neat!
