Going to the Farm Show every year makes me wish I could win the lottery and buy a farm full of Belgians and Percherons.

I've seen a few of those hitches. Very serious toys. Very serious dollars too.

We've got tons of Amish Belgians around home. They say the make fine draft horses, but I prefer the looks of a Clydesdale.

Maybe I shouldn't ask..... but isn't Banks a horse person? Still I see him as more a the Quarter horse person. Not some fancy-schmany horse person.

Not the ones I know, but I could fit into the "strange" category alright.

I should be nice. I have a '59 McCellan Saddle that would look real good on that Quarter Horse.

Horses are a waste of money if you don't use them and have no place to keep them for free.

Between myself and partner we now have over 30 head of mules and horses. The bad economy has forced a lot of people to get rid of their animals they have to pay board on. In the past 6 months we've picked up 4 horses and 2 mules for free.

We use the animals during the summer and fall on contracts with the USFS usually packing supplies to spike camps in wild fires or trail crews doing fire rehab work. We also have a packing service which gets booked by campers/fisherman and run guided elk hunts in the Marble Mountain Wilderness and Trinity Alps Wilderness in the fall. This is the best time for mine exploration since there is always down time.

The only way we can keep that many animals is the fact we have a grandfathered grazing permit on Forest Service land. We pull stock off the range as we need them and all of them spend from roughly November to April on the range.

Here's a mare I rode most of last year with a mule, both were given to us.

This ones hard to see due to its size, but there's 16 animals total in this string including the mare and mule I'm on in the rear.
