Pretty neat. They look a lot like the older original MSA Comfocaps. While they did a great job with them, I would doubt they are MSHA approved anymore.. But that is one problem with the MSA Comfocap, it is a tall hat..

yea, i sent him an email. i would be interested in one if they are approved or at least strong and hit tested. if they are just for display probably not but they would be nice for smaller mines.

As soon as we can find a good deal our entire group is switching to LOW VEIN comfo hats for sure. LIke Greg said the others are just too tall.

Also keep in mind it could be a safety reason why MSA doesn't make those caps any longer.. Perhaps the height could add some strength.

In southern West Virginia at the Harris #1 mine all miners wear the low vain style. In fact only in Western Pa, N. West Virginia & Ohio are the only places that use the higher cap that we noticed.

From what I can tell these are the guys buying up the caps on EBAY! That is why the price is always around $100.00 for a used one.

I have one of these hats I wear every night. Along with just about every one I work with and so far not one Inspector has ever questioned them. As far as strength 2 nights ago I ran smack into a roof bolt that was hanging out and it knocked me flat on my ass and I didn't feel a thing and not even a scratch on the hat. They are original MSA tall comfo cap that have had a little over a inch taken out and then they re-fiberglass it and sand and repaint it. can't even tell it has been cut and is just as strong as the original. He really does a remarkable job on them. It has the exact same measurements as the original low vein comfo cap. I recommend them.

I figured i would post this in here. I do not know how accurate this info is but it makes sense read all the way through it because it has good points through out. Towards the bottom of the page it talks about cut down comfo caps.
