The trip to Carbondale was a great trip. Ive been all over our area by rail, but the one line that got me hooked on railroads, ( Penn Division) I havent ridden till that trip. My grandfathers back yard boardered on the rail line. This is going back in the mid 70's. I spent every weekend up there for over four years till he got ill. In that time I remember trains well over 100 cars long ( on a grade like that, it was alot) six to eight unit consists blasting through grade crossings at 40 MPH +. And everything from Erie Lackawanna SD 45's to D&H Alco 628's, the Lehigh Valley's " snow birds" C628's and even the D&H bicentenial unit stopping at every little town and having tours of the cab. So it was a nice trip to actually see it from the train, after seeing it only from the ground. BUT the trip we went on was a "mystery trip" complete with actors, who were...being nice... a bit of an interruption of the trip. Let me put it this way. Our one and only Chris gave up the invite & oppurtunity to get on the trains PA systen to give a moderation to the passengers on the various colliery sites we passed on the way back !!! LOL !!!
