Mostly it's a sterotype. Just like Mike A uses the term "yogurt eatter". Starbuck's are mostly in cities and for the most part, city folks don't understand the mindset of the small mining towns.

Hey don't feel alone. As the person who is usually the butt of Starbucks jokes on this forum (and yes I love my Starbucks), I agree with a lot of the ideas of liberal policy but also disagree with a lot of them (including coal). Most of the people I interact with are in the city yet my dream is to live in a little log cabin with a stream in my backyard (and a mine). I feel that Libertarianism suits me the most of any political philosophy (friendly to coal, friendly with civil liberties) but I would not go on record as subscribing to any one party. I enjoy watching the Colbert Report and am entertained by the absurdities of Bill O'Reilly. But if you have an iPod or iPhone (ok, or an iPad), I highly recommend Common Sense with Dan Carlin. He is an independent thinker and shreds right through both left and right leaning policy in an invigorating way and from a well-thought out and highly educated point of view.

Chris is right. They ALL spend too much money and don't care for the working people of this Country. (I'm a tea-banging redneck, as Janine Garafolo would put it.)
And I just don't like starbucks because I think it's bitter-tasting crap.
Gimme a regular coffee and I'm happy.
You'd be surprised what you can live w/o and actually be happy.
Tradition and old school is going by the wayside, and I hate it.
If you look up some of my other posts, you'll see why I think liberals are the cause of the second Red Scare.

I brew Starbucks at home, have since I worked for United Airlines years ago. Didn't have the stigma it does now, and there weren't any in the North East. I'm with Shana as well on the Tea Party Movement. I use a press to make it, and it's a much different drink than in the stores. Not Liberal, like starbucks.

I just don't drive a Toyota Pinus. :D

Yesterday was one of those dang days for stereotypes.

See a fellow step out of a bumper stuck Prius--all PC stickers yet---who then walks into the local Starbucks in front of my sister, wife and I, We stand behind this fellow who orders his fruit of the week coffee---fair trade of course--and he pays and sits by the window.

Now, my sister and wife go to Starbucks a fair bit and I go to my Tim Hortons. Not this time---I was dragged there---so---we get up to the front of the line and I say--
"so--do you sell REAL COFFEE?" :P

Should've seen the looks I got---naturally I'm no longer allowed there----Gee I wonder why

No low fat creme or fancy doughnuts. REAL doughnuts with all the fat, sugar and cholesttoral they can fit into one !!! No Latee's or frurity coffee !!! So Im with you !!! ( no offense against those who like that kind of stuff)And to boot for only a 1/4 price of starbucks !!! Seems to me Starbucks is trying to become the Wal Mart of coffee !!!

I don't dislike Star Bucks because it is liberal (although yes it seems to only be available in those areas, much like the organic coffee), but it just doesn't taste good. They take the coffee beans, roast them, and burn them. It just has a burn't taste and doesn't taste good. I am a real coffee drinker and drink coffee black, perhaps that is why I just don't like it.

My favorite commercial coffee is Dunkin Donuts.
