Hey guys when i lived in NJ i rode the whole cutoff with a bunch of friends. It is an all day trip but well worth it. The viaduct is cool. If you have a few minutes stop there and crawl thru it. There are man hole openings every so often top side. once you get in there are huge rooms inside the viaduct. Pretty cool stuff. Have fun.....

Mike I know your familiar with long ATV trips. This ts one hell of a trip to ride.

I'll surely be going back for more, Its a blast. We can do an all day run there from Lake Hopatcong to Slateford PA and back. We can also bring some tents on the quads and camp out somewhere on the cutoff. There are tons and tons of side trails which go to countless other areas, its ATV paradise (for jersey at least).

If anyone else here has a quad we should plan an all day fest. Bring some beer, camp out and have fun as soon as the weather gets warmer.

mike - I can help you find a good deal on a used quad, you can pick one up for around $1500 on ebay, plus it would be a great MRV (mine research vehicle) since many mines are remote.

Hmm... it sounds tempting. I would also need a trailer. I am thinking of buying a Wrangler.

Mikes Totally right on about a quad being a great Mine Vehicle, allot of the mines have quad trails to them, Charlottesburg and splitrock are big ATV areas just to name a few.

unfortunately mines not a quad but 2x4, but its not bad. I have a manual winch I take with me.

Some trails really are only suited to atv's. They blocked off a huge section of the trails at Split Rock that I used to offroad on in my old Jeep -- you can only access all of it now by atv. They do not want you to have fun here. That's it, I'm buying a Wrangler and moving to Arizona! :D

The problem with that area is where do you store the trailer and truck used to transport the ATV? I guess a pickup isn't too bad, but when you need to tow multiples, you need a trailer..

If you leave from Lake Hopatcong the trail is currently un passable due to tree clearing and new bridge construction at Sparta-Stanhope Road. We made a trail back up to Sparta Stanhope rd, then you need to ride the road for about 1/8 mile towards Sparta and go on the paved hiking trail at the old bridge, once you come to the wooden guard rail in the woods you will see an old rock structure on your right, cut back into the rail bed there. Also watch out just east of the Ice Cave (Roosevelt Tunnel) there is a huge sink hole starting in the trail.
