Norm Brauer wrote two books, "Northern Electric Trolley" and "A History of Dalton, PA" that provide much information of the history of our area on the other side of "the notch". He passed away on Monday. Here is his obituary as it appears in the Scranton Times.

Norman Paul Brauer, 87, of Dalton, died Monday at Mercy Hospital after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Marjorie A. Rieder. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Born in Dalton on March 29, 1923, son of the late Frederick and Anna Kleinschrodt Brauer, he was a graduate of Dalton High School, where he excelled at sports. During World War II, he entered the Navy and was selected for the V-12 Navy College Training Program at Bucknell University. After his military service, Norman returned to Dalton and married his wife in 1948.

Norman established a number of businesses in Dalton: the Dalton Rack Pool hall, the Norm Brauer Insurance Agency, the Norm Brauer Real Estate Agency and Norm and Barry Brauer Postcards, and was elected as Dalton's tax collector for many years.

Norman received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Scranton. He earned a master's degree in education at Marywood College and taught sixth-grade classes in the Lackawanna Trail school system. He later achieved recognition as a local historian and published three books: "Northern Electric Trolley," "A History of Dalton"and "There to Breathe THE BEAUTY."

He was president of the Dalton Lions Club, deacon at Dalton Baptist Church, scoutmaster for Dalton Boy Scout Troop 156 and Little League coach. Always an active citizen promoting Dalton, he helped organize Dalton's 75th and 100th anniversary celebrations.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert and wife, Karen, California; and Benjamin and wife, Helen, and their daughter, Sheila, California. He was also preceded in death by his son, Barry L. Brauer.
