So do they lock the props in the feathered position? I would think even at idle that trailer wouldn't hold.

thats a test stand prop. its about half the diameter of an acutal flight prop, but twice the pitch to throw cooling air over the engine. half the diameter, twice the pitch puts the same load on the engine, that way it thinks its a flight prop. we have a few of these at work for running in engines........

I like the animation, isn't amazing what we were capable of before computers and CNC equipment. Chris, why does the starter turn for awhile before the output shaft starts to turn?

its an inertia starter, the compression is so big on those radials because of so many cylinders its very difficult to turn over. its spinning up a big flywheel and when its up to speed it engages the crankshaft.
