Wasn't like you expected? Not realistic, or truely not what you expected? While monisters in caves are usually not realistic, sometimes movies tend to do other unrealistic stuff..

speaking of caves, there are 3 caves in the mcafee quarry by my house. they are called korrogenot, wormscrew and arch roof. i havent ventured in but they are listed on the caves of nj publication, kerogenot has a significant underground mapping in the book. The entrance looks almost like an adit too.

Interesting Sign, the saltpeter could have been obtained from either of the three caves on the mountain.

Thanks Chris yeah exploring the three caves was awesome. The trip was a lot of fun and I learned a lot while I was out there. I have a lot more pictures to post up and some of them need a little work, look for more pic's soon.

a surprise indeed... wait until you miners get a look at what West "#1 in mental illness" Virginia has to offer!

to see Caver Dewey's trip photos, see http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a121/szotrj/wvcaves/?start=all

WARNING: When traveling in West Virginia, Kentucky, or similar incested territory, beware of the one they call Goat. If, to your missfortune, you do cross paths with the Goat, strictly refuse all gratious gifts in the form of coffee, porn, etc... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Very cool picture Jon. But I have to say I am a little disappointed. Where is your Skullgard? Very cool..

 yeah I know I know. Next time I promise it will be on. I will say that the Petzl caving helmet was pretty comfortable but nothing could replace my skullgard. The areas that I explored in Hamilton would have been impossible to get threw with a skullgard on but other areas it would have been fine. I wanted to take certain pictures but couldn't even attempt it because I didn't have a Thor, their will be a next time. The only beat part was the head lamp that I used, not bright enough and nothing like a 26 volt head lamp.

I see that Z posted up the slide show link of Dewey's pic's but I'm going to make a larger slide of all the pictures on here for easy access. Thanks Z for posting!

Look forward in seeing the pictures. Even though you didn't have your thor, I'm sure you still have some good ones!

Here are the remaining pictures from the trip. Starting from Hamilton, then Trout and last New Trout. On the way back to Pitt we checked out what appeared to be a salt mine. I explored what was accessible and took a few pictures. Enjoy!

Wow, these pictures are sweet! You have definitely captured aspects of caving that most people don't get to see. I was really impressed with the size of that salt mine opening. Were you able to explore that? How extensive was it?
