Well with the help of our entire restoration crew of the Ohio Vintage Coal Co. this project was a hit ! We thank the Ohio Valley Coal Co., Bob & Rob Murray for their gracious donation of the (1918) Baldwin-Westinghouse Mine Locomotive. This is a real unique piece of mining heritage. The locomotive was rescued from an underground seal when the miners entered into some old workings. The locomotive was retreived & brought back up to the surface for preservation in 2008.

The locomotive was used on main haulage then latter assigned to support the longwall machine assisting in the moving of the shields. This unit is very interesting on the account of the super tall 33" wheels to gain speed underground.

The locomotive is scheduled to get a full restoration in early spring 2008.

Make sure you visit http://www.ohiovintagecoal.com for the complete story & pictures.

Monday evening we should have the vids compressed for faster download. The wheels are 33" TALL. We are getting close to having at least one model from every mfg. but we are still looking for a compressed air type too.

Yes. . . he owns a boat load of mines & (2) high production ones in Ohio. What sucks he only owned that mine for a short time when that disaster hit. He is a hard core coal miner & runs his mines with a passion.

Good job! DId they end up stripping parts from this locomotive before giving it to you, or did you manage to get a complete loco?

Was the parts locomotive also in the mine next to this, or they dug this one out specifically for you? I'm glad to hear that it runs well.

This thing operates different. Since this operates on 250 volt DC a control voltage is utilized to operate a set of power contactors.

Translation: You do not have a lethal voltage at the tip of your hand (controller).
