Good Goin' Mike! That mine made quite a presence in Hard Coal - the documentary Marc Brodzik has been working on. Thats how all the anthracite mines are becoming these days. CLOSED. Here we sit on the second cleanest fossil fuel with our hands tied by the federal government.

Mike . . . Sweet we have seen one of those mines but not in that condition. How much for the hoists ? We would like to get a Lidgerwood hoist for a display.

Just talked to the guy that owns this mine. The mine IS NOT being reclaimed, it's just being idled. There is a good chance it will be running again in the not to distant future.

heres 2 mines in the southern field. the first is kimmels no.1 which looks more like a bitty operation than anthracite! the second is what i believe to be tito coal co. anyways we flew down today after doing some photography for the office of surface mining on the olyphant mine fire and it was getting late in the day, the light was getting lower so sorry that the pics are a bit on the out of focus side, the platform was a bit less than stationary

i posted them here instead of in the photos section cause there is only 2 and it fits with this discussion.

Shana, he's still working on the DVD... I think the problem is that things are changing so quickly in the anty region here that theres always more to film and add to it!

The anty coal sites are disappearing too quick it does suck we have to admit. It does look like they are trying to adapt the high production bitiminous coal mining methods. 1st continous miners then we will figure how to get that longwall machine up an 80 degree pitch. No problem ! They are beginning the transformation :D :D

Visited southern slopes today with Jim Knox, and Mike Piersol (sp?). Got pics of the Tito, another one right down road from Tito, Another abandoned one a little further down road all in Williamstown / Tower city area. Then Joliet, Little Buck, and B&B. All thanks to Jim's Blazer. Also stopped by R&D, all thats there is a memorial to the man killed there earlier in 2007. All signs of mine are gone. Owner of Joliet says he expects to throw in the towel in a few months. Will post pics when I get time to post process them. Lighting was bad, was supposed to be sunny, was very cloudy and gray all day, plus a bit cold. Bad news, was told by man working at Joiliet Coal that the Tower City Colliery # 1 tunnel collapsed  Dave from Reading

We got to Joliet sometime after 3:00 (I don’t remember exactly when), but it was about ten minutes before closing. Bill (and everyone else) was above ground then.
