How fast was that baby movin??.

They were going pretty slow (10-15 mph). They can't travel very fast because alot of the ties are bad and the track alignment is off.. You can see the condition of the rail in the first photo link I posted.

I walked that a few yrs ago. the masonry work is incredible! where the workings are it's very ornate. It appears like the coal was hauled out on small gage rail caved out above the RR tracks

Since we brought this back up, found the tunnel around Turkey time. My friend, who is an engineer, just loved the thing. And thats comming from someone who has been in the path tunnels in NYC. Anyhow, figured I would throw one of my photos up. I have to go back!

I don't know if its camera tricks but it looks like you took the photo with flashlights/spotlights illuminating the tunnel & no flash. With the camera sitting on the rail, you probably took a couple sec. exposure, then edited the hell out of it in Photoshop.

Let me know if I'm right or correct me if I'm wrong.

I always believe you should only edit if the editing could have been done with a film negative. Hence cropping, color, brigtness can be done. But copying, moving, or anything else is a big no no.

Btw, I must admit that UGM's photos are fantastic. I find it hard enough to get decent shots in dark places and your photos almost make it seem easy. Who ever is the photographer, well you deserve a well done!

Where exactly is the mahanoy tunnel located? Another thing on my to-do list but i never was quite sure of where it was.
