Are you going to treat the wood.

You should use boiled linseed oil. It helps preserve the wood.

all thats really left to do is build the dump door and set it on rails... weren't planning on treating the wood.. just letting it weather. I guess it wouldn't hurt to rub something into it as long as theres no discoloring. it cant look like its got preservatives in it... gotta look alllll natural! Organic. Homegrown. Thats the way its done out here.

i talked to a guy who said they used to 'paint' the wood with crude oil to help preserve it.

you know coal is not the only fossil fuel around pennsylvania. i'm sure we could find a little sweet crude out here in western PA..... the good old Quaker State!

banks and i constructed the dump door today. just a few more small things and its complete. should finish it monday, then on to the next one.
