started our next rail project tonight. we are building a glen alden coal co. huber colliery mine car. like the ugm coal co. car almost all the steel will need to be fabricated for this car as we are not rebuilding an existing car we are constructing one. we have had a set of 42" gauge wheels and axles since we got our first mine cars from baumanns but never had any desire to do anything with them since all of our other stuff is 36" gauge. now we have learned that the huber colliery was 42" gauge and they had some pretty nice looking wooden mine cars. this mine car will be the first out of all of the ones we have rebuilt that will be ran at another location other than our own. since this will be mike a's baby, it will be going to the no.9 mine tour which is ironic that they are a 42" gauge mine! it may make a stop over at pioneer on the way to make a trip into there too. we look forward to this project as it will be another unique piece to add to our collection. here is a photo of what it will look like........ in 40-50 years

This has been something I've wanted to do since I've been a young lad. There used to be two or three cars left next to where the shaft was at the Huber. Those cars have since been destroyed. At any rate it will be something to see one riding the rails again. There is, by the way, a Huber style car on static display in Summit Hill PA.

Well today the Huber Car project get well under way. Two new volunters , Eric B. and his Dad painted the wheel and axle sets and the few original steel parts that we will be re using on this car. All the other steel parts will be made much like we had to do on the UGM coal car.

This mine car has been snake bitten from the start! Between stuck bits and broken shanks we managed to get one hole drilled 3/4's of the way through before calling it quits. I guess the oak is a little harder on the bits then the other stuff was. Hopefully next week goes a little better!

Gawd, no more pink.
I think my name should've been carved in there.

Now Mike A. isn't speaking to me and it's Banks' fault.
