As of the beginning of this month, 2 of the Anthracite mine tours are open. Lackawanna and Pioneer Tunnel. No. 9 is short to follow with just a couple weeks to open yet. Mike A will have the dates. Hopefully see you all at one, or all of them soon!

Lackawanna is open 7 days per week from 9 - 5 with the first tour usually tempting fate around 11 am. By demand after that - Last tour goes down about 3:30.

Pioneer Tunnel is giving mine tours 7 days a week at 11am, 12:30pm and 2:00pm. Steam Train rides run between mine tours.

I'll be at Lackawanna giving tours this Saturday (Apr 12.)

I just knew you'd pick a Saturday where I've got three events going on at the same time.
Pick another Saturday.

I'd like to bring a gang of friends up and do all three mines.
Hey Mike Huh? What weekends are you at the Nine?
I'll drop in there some Saturday or Sunday then head to K-town on the way back.

well we are going to do that, but the first tour of the year will be to all 3 mine tours in one day. people love the underground portion of our tours when we hit one of the 3 mine tours so we want to start the season off with a day trip to all 3 tours. only problem is the people will have to drive to all 3 but it will be a great day and worth it!

yay! I was at the Pioneer tour in 2006, but I haven't been to the other two yet. The only thing was I thought they went a little too fast...I know they are on a schedule but it would be nice to get to walk around for a little while when you're down there.

I'll be at the 9 every weekend just about. Some weekends I'll be there both days, especially early in the season. After that mostly on sundays.

we will be putting out notice on the next tour tomorrow. made contacts today and now just have a few details to work out. we have a date picked and will post it up tomorrow. what i can tell you now is we will be meeting at the lackawanna mine tour at 8:30 am and then going into the mine with banks and i as the tour guide. from there to the no.9 mine where mike a. will be the tour guide and if we are lucky and its done by then we will be using the mantrip we donated to the mine. then we will proceed to pioneer where everyone will be issued a hard hat and we will walk the mine with the lights out. no train ride in, 1800 foot walk underground. course if someone wants, or needs a ride in and out that will be no problem. everyone will be required to bring a good flashlight and boots. also bring a bagged lunch to eat at the 9. i know this will be a good bit of driving, however, rest assured this one is not going to be the one to miss. price will be a little higher than normal at $30.00 but this will include ticket prices at all 3 mine tours. the rest will go towards amr's restoration and shop fund. this is to be the best tour we have ran so far so, when its listed follow instructions and sign up quick. its going to fill up fast. we only have 30 spots to fill, thats the mantrip limit at 190.

I hear its gunna rain on saturday... we might actually have some buisiness up there at 190! the tour is actually busier on rainy days.. Rainy Dayz Coal Company.

Problem is that its usually not people to interested in mining.... just people looking for something to do on a rainy day. oh well..

any one out there have some sort of small bus or large van that could be used to transport the group from place to place?

it will be great to be able to directly compare the different technology and techniques used at each mine. now all we need is a flat pitch mine with a shaft and we'll be all set!

John
