Well now guys, It just so happens that I do have a 440 sitting in my backyard, complete with I believe is a 727 trans. Runs good, I just put new valve seals in it and rebuilt the carb. So if it comes down to it, I suppose I can provide the powerplant. but one thing, who's buyin the gas to feed this thirsty pig?

AIRBUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not in my mine, there french! That 440 of Adams will be more than enough. Of course if it has the carter thermoquad carb on it it shouldn't be bad to run. They only really suck the fuel when there wide open. I had a 1966 New Yorker with a 440 and you could get 18 mpg on a trip. Not to impressive untill you look at the stats, 6000lb car, AC, 4 barrel, points ignition, auto trans, and a big block.

I had my suspicions about you shana! I'm not to keen on having all this modern jet technology around the mines, maybe if it was soft coal, but it's not thank you.

I don’t know if its still there, but an Amish owned scrap yard near Reading had an old trailer mounted jet engine for sale last year:

You could couple the engine to a fan and back the trailer up to a portal

The turbine was already in the yard when they purchased the property. The place had a lot of interesting pieces. The more unusual ones were the thousand (or more) left hand automotive mirrors:

A standard gauge Whitcomb (supposedly sold already):

And upside down standard gauge four wheel flatcars:

huh, was the turbine running some sort of generator? the pt-6 which is pretty much the most popular turboprop engine was originally designed for use on an oil derrek. they would start them and let them run the oil pump and never shut them down, they would run for 4500 hrs without work needed. someday someone got the brilliant idea..... hey lets put one of these on an airplane and the rest is history.

Adam,

What year 440?

Mike,

It's hard to believe you got 18 MPG out of it. The best I ever got going gas station to gas station on the freeway, babying it was 13. I imagine I would get 7 or 8 on the local roads.

While the turbine is cool and all, nothing beats the sound alone of a Chrysler Big Block and using it to operate fan is even better!

2.73 gears in the rear is how I got 18 mpg. Plus sunoco ultra 94 gas and set the timing for 10 BTDC ( thats not a misprint)
