mike and i stopped by eckley to check out the movie breaker and rr cars there. the rr cars were definitely movie props and not real ones as they are constructed way to light. there are no mine cars from the movie left there..... that we know of. to our amazement however, as soon as we..... well.... "got a closer look" at the breaker we noticed all the mine rail is still intact, as well as the movie slope opening! all 28" gauge rail that is and the opening is collapsed about 5 feet in, but it looks cool! next time we are heading down that way ill stop for some pictures as i didnt think to take any today..... yea, smart. but i was surprised to to see all the mine rail intact. never got that close before.

I think it's sad that some of those houses are falling in and are badly damaged probably beyond repair. I guess they just don;t have the $$$ to keep the uninhabited houses fixed up.

Yeah it is sad... Its terrible. The funny thing is that the state is trying to take over that whole village to preserve it, obtaining houses after people either die or move out....but if you drive through Eckley, for the most part the best preserved and best maintained houses are the ones people are actually living it! The state doesn't reeeaally care about Eckley... It won't win anyone an election!

I stopped in there one day to ask about properties for sale or for rent, and I was told the bad news. No one will be living there after the remaining people move out. It wouldn't be so bad if they would actually do something with the place, but the state is letting it go to hell.

Having people living there helps as the people in the house are doing the required upkeep for the homes. But when there is noone living there and then sometimes vandals, the house could go down quick. Too bad, I'd love to see pictures.
