so a film crew from california came out today to our rail facility to get some footage and sound bites for a documentary they are working on about the knox mine disaster that will be run on dvd and pitched to the history channel, a&e and discovery. they are coming out again in late summer to do some underground work with us at the 190 slope getting some footage for just before the water broke in. wonder where we are going to find actors to play the part.........

there is only one that i know of that was done by scranton/wilkesbarre pbs station wvia. its for sale on their website and it has pretty good footage but lacking something. maybe just cause its kind of old, and doesnt compete with docs produced now, but its the only one out there that i know of.

Looks like from the pictures that they were also looking to record some clean sound of the motor, moving cars and so forth. Sound effects are a big part of things these days. This will be pretty neat actually. Where are they going to film most of it?

A lot of it is going to be computer generated..but they're going to do some underground shooting at Lackawanna.

Are they going to be filming in any active mines? While different techniques, it might be somewhat helpful in getting some of the true feeling of active mining.

They'd have to go through the 40 hour training...so i doubt it. Since Hard Coal and Dirty Jobs got into the mines with their camera equipment MSHA has cracked down.. Plus, even if they did, without having "permissible" camera equipment, they can only stay on the intake airways... can't go to the face where the action is!
