Glad to hear you fellas are okay. Incidents like these are never easy to take, and like some have said, they are a part of the business. This is a tragic loss and a toguh blow to the anthracite miners community, I'm sure. My family's prayers are including this miner and his family as well. It's too bad the public in general dosn't realize the sacrifices miners make to provide for the betterment of society. They're too far removed from it I guess, I just hope that one day maybe they wake up. Stay safe down there guys and gals.

I saw this on the news the other day...what a shame. Unfortunately thats the nature of working underground, anything can happen even if you take lots of precautions. Lets just hope it doesn't happen again for a very long time.

MOUNT CARMEL — A state official said a Shamokin area miner killed in an accident June 16 at Harmony Mine was in an area where the roof was not supported.

MOUNT CARMEL — A state official said a Shamokin area miner killed in an accident June 16 at Harmony Mine was in an area where the roof was not supported.

Tom Rathbun, spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection, said Thursday that Harmony Mine’s roof control plan was not being properly adhered to by miners at the time of the accident that killed 45-year-old Robert Carey, East Cameron Township.

“The victim was in an area of unsupported roof at the time of the accident,â€
