Greetings,

I just joined this forum, and have attempted to put up a picture of my Hudson Coal Company 7 1/2" gauge gondola. I sent a few pics of my rainlroad in southern NY near Binghamton to Greg and he suggested I post a few pics here. The photos are in a Kodak program, and I tried to Cut and Paste, which is not an option, and drag and drop, which also does not work.

Anyone have any suggestions?

A bit about the car, it's a model of a typical gondola which I painted as a Hudson Coal Company car, and dedicated it to my grandfather who has ridden in it several times. He was a miner back in the 50s. It was scratch built, and is about 6 feet long.

Thanks,
John

Hi John, and Welcome!

I moved your post to the "Projects" page since it is a completed project.

In terms of posting photos, This might help:

http://www.ironminers.com/mineforum/vie ... hp?t=19319

If not, we'll be happy to try to solve the problem and get them up.

When you do try again to post the photos, go to the Project Photos page, start a new topic, and post them there.. just keeps things organized.

Thanks for attempting it! Hopefully we'll see the photos soon!

Banks

Banks, Chris,

Hadn't checked back here since I put up the pics in the project pics section. Sorry I didn't see your questions.

The line is located near Binghamton, NY. It's not a huge layout, but it still took me 2 years to lay the track by hand, I didn't have any help so it takes a while that way. It's 611 feet of main line, and currently I'm building a switch/tressle into the pole barn so I don't have to drive the locomotive out from the basement on plywood all the time. Plenty of room to expand, but no time to do it. But it really is a nice little ride the way it is.

I have just the one locomotive. I may build another this winter, but I'm having trouble finding a supplier for 4 wheel car parts to make cars to go with it. That won't stop me from building the loco, though.

My line-up of cars includes the two gons and the caboose you see, a flat car, and a reefer. Maybe I'dd put up a reefer pic if that's ok. Not mine-related, but it is the prize of the fleet with extensive graphics and about 6 months of construction time.

Feel free to post any pictures up. There are a lot of narrow gauge rail fans on here, and I guess "real narrow gauge" qualifies in the scheme of things!

Greg,

I put a pic of the reefer up in General Discussion since I don't think it really fits in with mining at all.

Unless the Company Store carried Elwood's Root Beer. There it is! Just about anything can be mine-related! Ya, it'll make more sense when you see the car.

Oh. It's near Binghamton, a little more than an hour North of you. I'm not running right now because the switch was removed and I'm currently completing the bridge with the switch being re-built on top of that. Got a week off in a couple weeks, hope to finish at least the switch then. After that is basic track maintenace, ballast and leveling.

But ya, battling through a horrible work schedule, I'm hoping to get enough time to be operational again soon. And you're cetrtainly welcome to come up and run. I'm hoping to have a couple get-togethers but we don't have to wait until then. By chance do you get any days off during the week? Almost all of mine are during the week currently. I hope I'll have an occasional Saturday off soon but we have a guy out with an injury right now.

Where do you get your rail? What is it... it looks like aluminum in the photos?

Chris, I'll PM you my infowhen I get home, we'll work something out. Banks, you're welcome to come along.

Yes, that's aluminum rail. Almost all of it is from Cannonball, but I have some from Real Trains.

Perhaps I should direct folks interested in these things to www.discoverlivesteam.com so they can learn more. You can navigate around and find clubs near them that have layouts that are way more awesome than mine. There's tons of great steam engines and things out there. I'm just one of the growing number of people that decided to build a home track

That is a great link.

We are actually listed on there as a supplier for boiler work & custom machining & track building.
