I was wondering how all of these abandon mines up there keep from being reclamed. I understand some of the smaller mines but, from some of the pictures there are still alot of tipples er, excuse me breakers left. People down here would be jumping up and down to have them tore down. I do applaud you all for trying to keep your history. Much of WV Coal history has been lost to reclamation and scrap yards.

they are starting to get more strict with reclamation. we only started this 10 years ago now. i hear all these people....... if you were only around 20 years ago there was this and there was that...... and now, im telling people the same thing, 5 years ago this was still here, or that was still here. we are trying to keep this stuff up. in the northern field up here its tough as 2 major cities are expanding through the land where these mines are/were. the mines built these cities and soon there will be nothing left to recognize, mining related. at least the huber breaker looks as if its going to be saved. thats a pretty impressive place. its the last of its kind in the region here. as you said, there are some smaller sites that remain, simply we dont know if the powers to be know about their existence or not. oh well someday it will only be in pictures and memories im guessing.

WV does have its secret little spots but tough to find. No major infrastructures (buildings) left for the most part.

Chris & I have talked several times on this topic. We have said man good thing we took those pictures when we did because it is gone now. The cool thing about this group is that most of us have seen the sites so we all have a great appreciation for them & when they are gone we pass the history on.

That is certainly one good thing about what we do, we heavily document stuff so that when it does go away, there is still a way to remember the stuff. Every year more and more stuff goes away. All we can do is keep trying to do our best. Trying to save this stuff usually ends up being a losing battle.
