Has anyone else heard of a program Hudson had at pine ridge where they put aluminum dust into the vents at a special wash house at pine ridge to help miners from developing different coal related lung ailments?

Yea I have a newsopaper article from 1947, hudson spent 40k on a special "hi-tech" (or so they thought) wash house where this aluminum dust treatment took place.

I wondered that myself as well. If I remember correctly that wash house had a stone with"1920" on it above the large door in front. I dont remember if they built a new building or how it was done, but they could have converted that building. I need to look arround my home office for the article, its been a while since i read it.

i found this on yahoo answers

In yhe 1950's we were given aluminum dust to breathe before going into the mines. Is there any harm ?
When the miners went into the dry [changehouse] the dryman sent a black cloud of aluminum dust into the room. We were told that by breathing this dust, it would coat our lungs, and prevent silica going on our lungs and in this way, prevent silicosis. I have heard recently that this treatment was dropped because of the harm it was doing to the body. I would like to know what if anything was found , and the symptons of any damage it caused.

Why would anyone ever come to the conclusion that breathing Aluminum dust could prevent silicosis...?
