so today we got the privilege to travel down to the pump room. the foreman at the coal co. we are working at is also the foreman on this job so he invited us along. this was a great experience and we got to enter some large colliery workings. the mine was actually standard gauge track! i hear the idea with this was so they could work on the mine motors and cars at the rr shops and just pull them down the tracks. the pump room is pretty cool. one of the original colliery pumps is still in place and operational. they use it as a back up pump to their primary. they have 2 other escapeways. one is a pod like lackawanna, the other is a mile away at the fan. i guess its a real pain to travel it underground with the yellow boy. the pod we had lowered several times with supplies. this was a cool experience, they inspect it every month so we plan on going back with him next time.
