I just happened upon a new site that lists coordinates of places including mines on the web with aerials. When I looked up Peters Mine, it looked much different. I could not make out any features such as the ore concentrating building or the towers. Perhaps it is just me but I think we should do a recon here soon as I fear the environmental reclamation might have wiped out the historical structures. But perhaps I'm wrong. See for yourself...

I don't know, it looks to me that everything west of the mine opening (and reclaiming) looks like it could be intact.. there are lots of trees, while they are hiding everything, if the stuff was all destroyed, I would have expect to see no trees in that area..

We certainly should make a visit out this way to examine the latest status of this area. I'm sure lots has changed. While it seems unlikely that they will ever dewater the mine for a more thorough cleaning, it would be nice to know what they have done to the area.

It would be interesting to see the mining area weather it's the same or if it has changed. It has been years since I have seen the area and I wonder how the waste clean up turned out. If anyone wanted to visit the area before next year I would be up for going.

I think they have a long way to go before they can make any progress. While I have mentioned this long before, only recently have I heard scientists estimate that they would have to pump out the entire mine to even know the extent of the pollution let alone make it safe. And where do you put that much toxic water and sludge once you remove it?

A trip before the new year is definitely in order. Even if for part of the day. Let me know (privately) what days are good for you.
