Well to put it simply the whole project is pretty much stalled I guess since our countys wonderfull leadership has us in debt and the fact that No.1 Construction is in just as bad of shape as the county.

Who owns it? And is there any state/federal funding for it?

the state does... they're trying to gain total control of Eckley. The problem is theres people that still actually live in Eckley in the company houses that have been grandfathered in through the years...which is a good thing. The houses that people have been living in are well maintained as they should be! The ones the state has aquired for "preservation" are going to hell..

as for eckley, its just a wooden structure. the outside just looks like a breaker, on the inside it looks like a barn. as for st nick, basically reading doesnt care about it. i would be surprised at all if its torn down in a few years.

Money may not be an issue to them.

I would suspect that environmental issues could be a point. It the site sits vacant, they just have to take minimal precautions to keep people off.

If they sell it, they may have to clean it up before they can transfer the property.

If they transfer it, and they new owner assume environmental risk and botches the job, they may still be liable.

Or some companies just are difficult and may use an excuse like, we don't want another company competing with us.

Corporations make what appear from our point-of-view to be sutpid decisions regularlly, we just don't know all that went into their decision.
