Howdy all,

My name is Shawn and I am from southern Illinois. I am new to coal mining and out of luck started out doing (and still doing) coal train loadout work. I love working in the coal mines and make good money :) Hope to make new friends here.

Shawn

hey shawn, welcome aboard! good to have fellow miners on here and trade some stories. most of us are from the anthracite region of northeast pa, but we more than welcome discussion from other areas and look forward to discussing different mining techniques.

Shawn,

I'm not a miner but, I'm on the fringe of the Illinois Basin in Indiana.

I assume that your coal is from underground? I knew a few Illinois Coal folks back few years ago or lifetimes ago compared to most of these guys.

Word of caution. Take everything you know about mining and put it on hold. These anty guys do things completely different. It will be an education.

@Brian = I used to do security work and was a private detective for a security firm, so I kind of did what you did in a way. My old security job got me in this mining gig :)

@Everyone = Thanks for the welcome :D I hope its not a big deal but I am non-union, I wish we were a union mine but union coal mining is a thing of the past in southern Illinois. :(

MY name is Heath, and I am also from Southern Illinois. I am currently a red hat working in a non union mine also.I guess the big difference between me and Brian is that I am underground.

If you are referring to me Ive never worked underground, or above ground for any mining operation, I have an interest in it and local history as well, but as far as working in the industry, this website and exploring and photographing abandoned anthacite mining areas is the closest I get to it in the white collar world

Thanks for the welcome. I am currently working on a CM unit, at a Long wall mine. I think there are @ 350 people at this section of the mine and about the same at the other part of the mine.
