I don't know about mine workings but I've only walked in it about 75-100 yards. I've heard that a train will come through at least once a day. What exactly did you hear about mine workings?

That's awesome! I had no idea! Which side are they on? North or South? I guess I'm going to have to make another trip up there.

from what i remember alittle before the mid part of the tunnel if rou look up you can see some workings and when you get to two arches on each side of the tunnels wall that are bricked up there is a hole you can crawl through and its a slope that goes up and over the tunnel and on the other side there is a slope that goes up but to where i dont know... i havent been there in like 2 years so i dont really remember but i do want to get back there soon

"so where inside are the two archs"

like i said, its just a train tunnel, they arent too hard to find

they go up to a collapse, but go down a bit to water. the bottom rock is extremely slick though and you could go for a good ride with no way up then. they were old closed mine works that the tunnel intersected as they drove it. the mine works were bricked off but someone broke through. you can enter from either side but like i mentioned before this is an active tunnel and the reading and northern dont take kindly to people in there.

Can't go to the Mahanoy Tunnel anymore. There are new posted signs everywhere on the Barnesville side.

The Buck Mountain side isn't as interesting as the Barnesville side; no ventilation fans  ...... There's an old Reading RR concrete telephone booth.... other than that,,,,,there's nothing else to see.....
