Some pretty interesting shots.. Even though the mines are caved and or eroded shut, it's always interesting studying old mining archeology.

For those who didn't find the links directly, see:

We've never taken a metal detector to a mine before. While my parents have one, I always figured the thing would go nuts around an iron vein - especially when there are tailing all over.

Keep in mind, they found 12 tunnels here and they did not indicate whether all of the tunnels were closed. It is difficult to tell but the picture captioned "One of the 12 tunnels we found at the base of the third ridge" might be open as it is not said to be collapsed. Also, the picture captioned "A close up of the ore inside one of the collapsed tunnels" appears accessible, if a bit soil eroded. I think a mission here is in order. It sounds like it could be an important operation and might be rich with even more archeological clues.

yep you boys should go check it out, would be a good addition to ironminers.com. i talked to him the other day and i believe he mentioned they were all collapsed, but you can look around for yourself and see for sure. they are pretty easy to get to.

Yeah, I would be curious if they are collapsed, earth eroded shut, and if there are any other 'holes of interest' around the area. Does sound very interesting indeed. Does he or you have any history behind the sites?
