I'll have to ask Randy if he'll give me a tour for Xmas.

That would be cool to get a tour there.Years ago I stopped on the side of the road and watched the dump trucks being loaded.

Sounds like a wonderful idea. But without firing Mike up again, I doubt the guys at MSHA would agree.

yeah, i just meant outside.. i've never been in there. running a drift like that right on the side of the road is perfect for the breaker trucks.

Getting in there would be near impossible...sorry guys :( They would be in big trouble if they got caught... MSHA doesn't really like the rothermels as it is. Theyd probably try to shut them down for a while again.

Thanks Banks,

Something I've noticed in these pics and the Ditry Jobs video, is that their mine run coal is so fine. I thought the idea was to get it out in larger chunks and let the breaker determine the sizing.

they are in a runny vein. part of the mammoth that we fired through in our rock tunnel was like this. the first 15 feet of the vein were hard then the top 3 or so were runny like that. dont get me wrong, its good coal, just runny. good for making small sizes that stokers need.

Runny ?

I have seen coals that were consistent and came out in blocks and then others which were comprised of many small layers. There is a term for this but it escapes me.

I assume that by runny you mean the latter. While most Anty is the block type.

The word you were thinking of (i think) was Friability. At the time of Dirty Jobs RS&W was in the Rough Vein. There in the Skidmore now and the coal doesn't look anything like it did in that show. It's good and hard but has extremley sharp edges on it much like the stuff at Alfred Brown.
