While sitting by the fake fireplace in my late 1800's living room sipping on some eggnog and Bailey's Irish Cream sprinkled with a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon, it came upon me to smack the upload button to deploy the Red Bridge Mine slideshow! I hope you enjoy this little mine...

Hey if that's the label I get for enjoying my eggnog, so be it! :D (it did help in producing some of the captions lol) But even the hardiest an Irish miner would yearn for such a treat after a long day of mucking down in the hole!

Yeah, while I agree how it sounds, nothing beats an irish mining tradition.. The only thing I think he is missing is a bottle of Guinness.

That was a really good find -- a good hike up to the mine, too:) It was an especially rigorous walk since we hiked up the mountain to 'recon' the mine area and then back down, and then up the mountain again (with mining gear!) -- almost encountering some bears along the way -- and finally being able to actually visit the mine... yay 'Gunks!!

wow! abandoned in 1840! that would make a great mine for studying hand drilling techniques as no pneumatic drils were in use then!!! what purpose do you think the iron wedges served? -CT Mike

I am thinking perhaps they were hammered and used to delaminate the various layers of rock to help separate the "good stuff" but this is just speculation. We should make a trip back and analyze further and check for hammer marks. Plus, there are 2 more adits here. We located one that was collapsed but the sound of a few bears kind of discouraged us from finding the other adit.

the wedge technique is interseting i found an iron wedge on the ground in the very old Sunk mine workings near the no. 3 adit as well but have never seen one still in place in a mine. bears cant discourage us if were armed with my .444 marlin lever action! we gotta find that other adit
